Assessment
The eyelids cannot be considered in isolation. The position of the brows, forehead activity, skin quality and the distribution of fat around the eyes are assessed together before a plan is proposed.
What it may address.
Surgery may remove carefully measured excess skin, reposition or reduce prominent fat pockets, and support tissues that have relaxed with time. Not every patient needs every step.
The procedure
Treatment is adapted to the upper eyelids, lower eyelids or both. Fat transfer may sometimes be added to soften hollow areas around the brow or lower lids.
Scars
The upper-eyelid incision is placed within the natural crease. On the lower lid, the incision may sit just beneath the lashes or on the inner surface of the eyelid, depending on what needs to be treated.
Recovery
Blepharoplasty is usually performed as a day case. Stitches are commonly removed after about five days, and bruising often settles over ten to fifteen days, although healing varies. The consultation covers likely recovery, limitations and possible complications.
